What To Expect At Collie River MTB Marathon

70km Race Course

Some updates for the Collie MTB Marathon 70km race for 2025! We're back out at Harris River Estate Winery for 2025! About 5km's north of Collie and at the heart of the Arklow MTB Trails Network. A fantastic place for the event village - with food vans and vendor displays. For 2025 we've reverted back to a single loop from HRE winery and back with less road crossing points. You'll leave the winery and head across Harris River Road and straight onto the '220' trail heading North, then back down on the 'Far Lap' trail. From here you'll ride up 'Bull Ant' and then head out on a northern loop on some great old fire trail. Once back you'll continue down 'Bull Ant' and then along the Munda Biddi and up Arklow Road for a great little descent back down towards the Munda Biddi trail. From there you'll race along 'Pet Cemetry', across the creek crossing (yep! It's back for 2025!) and up the Munda Biddi and the top part of 'Jarrah Jaunt' before flying down Railway Rise. Towards the bottom of Railway Rise you'll take a hard right and join back onto the 'Arklow Adaptive' loop and head back to the HRE Winery using 'Mornington Glory' and 'Dead Cats' trails. Here you'll cross back over Harris River Road and do a quick lap of 'Rays Trail' before finishing in the winery grounds to the cheers of the adoring fans! In Case Of Emergency

Mountain Biking Can Be Dangerous
In the case of a life threatening emergency always dial 000 or 112 on your mobile phone - or use the EmergencyPlus App on your phone. We highly recommend that you download the EmergencyPlus app on your phone and dial/connect to 000 from there as it gives the operator a location/lattitude/longitude lock on your location for access.Once Emergency Services have been contacted please contact the event emergency contact number (Incident Control) and let them know your location (if you reset your speedometer to 0km at the start of the race and inform Incident Control of the distance you have travelled on your race distance, they can narrow down your location) and let them know the circumstance, they will advise from there.
In a less serious circumstance there are a number of options. Pleae contact Event Incident Control (contact phone number will be given prior to event) and they will advise. If there is no reception please stay with the injured rider and the next rider to attend can ride forwards to the next checkpoint (or to where there is mobile coverage) and inform the marshall / incident control of hte situation and they will advise.
The event team will have various options on the day for extracting riders. If riders have a mechanical issue then we have a number of shuttling options to get riders back to the event village. If there is a medical situation Incident Control will asses and either get the rider back via a shuttle or send medical aid to your location.
Course Marshalls will have radio contact with Incident Control at each checkpoint.

Course Marking

YOU Need To Be Aware Of Course Marking And Follow The Appropriate Signage For Your Event.
Arrows for the 70km Event Are BLUE.
You will need to follow the BLUE ARROWS.
And at 'Decision Points' you will need to follow the direction of the appropriate Arrows.
Some of the arrows out on course have multiple coloured arrow on the same sign. Make sure the arrow that you need to be following is on the sign. If it's crossed/blanked out go back to the last arrow you came across with your arrow on it.
Meanings of other signs:'Caution - Danger Ahead' - Be Careful and Cautious - there may be a technical feature or similar ahead that may cause injury if not taken with care
'Wrong Way - Go Back' - You have gone - or are about to go the wrong way. Please back-track to where you know the track is and find the appropriate arrow/direction marker and follow it.
'Decision Point' - Large A-Frame Sign with options for the various event distances - follow the direction for your distance/event/colour arrow.
If unsure or lost please ask event crew at any Checkpoint location or call Incident Control.

What To Bring

Safe, serviced and properly functioning bicycles. Handlebars are to have 'handlebar end plugs' - open handlebar ends will result in not being allowed to start the race.
Australian Standards Approved Helmet to be worn securely on your head at all times while riding your bike - this includes riding from your car to the start line or warming up etc.
Your bike needs to have a water bottle mounted - or rider to be carrying a hydration pack - to make sure you drink during the event. Dehydration is a risk during endurance mountain biking and we encourage you to drink near 1 litre per hour or as you require. There are checkpoints out on course where you can top up your water and basic snacks/food. Please make sure you eat and drink appropriately prior to, during and after the event.
We suggest you wear full fingered gloves, long sleeve jersey and appropriate shorts for cycling. For longer distances we highly recommend padded cycling shorts to improve comfort/reduce chaffing and pockets in your jersey (or a top tube storage box) to carry food/snacks. A small tool pouch (often hung under the saddle) to carry spare tube/tool/repair kit/spare chain link and a pump in case you have a technical issue. Please do not rely on the kindness of others to supply you with tools/tube/pump. We also suggest wearing appropriate eyewear to keep dirt/dust/mud out of your eyes.
Checkpoints will have first aid kits, and they are able to contact the medical team if required. Particularly for the longer distance events it is suggested you carry a basic first aid kit.
Austcycle recommendation: It is strongly recommended that all competitors carry:• Suitable backpack• Waterproof jacket• Emergency blanket• Innertubes/ puncture repair kit• Multi tool• Basic, well maintained first aid kit• Map• Food and fluids• Eye protection (glasses or goggles)• Emergency contacts supplied by organiser edit me.
